.KEY MESSAGES...

* Significant warming trend still on track for this week with
Friday and Saturday projected to be the hottest days.

* There are low chances (10-15%) for isolated showers and
thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening today and
  tomorrow in the eastern Sierra.

* Wind and low chances for precipitation potential returns early
next week along with milder temperatures.

.DISCUSSION...

Main weather highlight is the warming trend that will take us
into near record to record territory for high temperatures on
Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, plan on light winds with typical
afternoon breezes and low chances (10-15%) for an isolated shower
along the Eastern Sierra today and Wednesday.

With temperatures projected to ramp into the mid to upper 90s for
the lower valleys and mid to upper 80s in Sierra communities, it
will really start to feel like summer around here. The Reno-Tahoe
Airport stands a 70% chance at hitting 90 degrees for the first
time in 2025 on Wednesday, and about a 50% chance of tying the
existing high temperature records on Friday (96F) and Saturday
(98F). Blended guidance is also highlighting a 40-70% chance of
Basin and Range locations, like Fallon, soaring into the triple
digits by Saturday. Please make preparations and take precautions
for the upcoming heat this week. With widespread HeatRisk values
in the moderate risk category and pockets of major risk spreading
into western Nevada Friday and Saturday, this will be impactful
to much of the population. The heat will also produce increased
snowmelt with rivers running fast and cold. Wear proper gear or
avoid entering rivers and streams to cool off. If you have outdoor
activities planned: have a hydration plan, start earlier in the
day, wear cool, light clothing and sunscreen, and take plenty of
breaks. Or maybe wait until Sunday if you`re not a fan of the
heat.

By Sunday into Monday, there are hints of relief from the heat on
the horizon as a Pacific Northwest trough approaches the West.
Downside to the cooldown will be an increase in the west to
southwest winds. While temperatures drop around 8-12 degrees
areawide, it does appear that wind gusts will be in the 30 to 40
mph range. There could be localized critical fire weather conditions
due to gusty winds and low humidity late Saturday, as the winds
first start to ramp up and temperatures stay warm. As temperatures
drop Sunday-Monday, humidity values will rise a bit even as winds
become stronger. There are inklings of precipitation with this
trough, but that potential doesn`t arrive until late Sunday and
into Tuesday. There is still enough uncertainty in the trough
track to table the precipitation chatter for now, but it`s a good
bet we will cool off and have some winds to kick off June.

.AVIATION...

For most terminals plan on light winds with dry and VFR
conditions, outside of typical afternoon and evening breezes each
day as high pressure strengthens across the Sierra and western
Nevada.

Today and Wednesday there may be a handful of showers or cumulus
buildups along the eastern Sierra with a 10-15% chance of a storm
developing.

Big warm up still on track for Friday and Saturday with near
record to record temperatures expected that may result in density
altitude concerns.
